CHARDSTOCK
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

Chardstock Horticultural
Society was founded over 25 years ago by and for gardening enthusiasts
in and around the Parish of Chardstock.
Annual membership costs £3.00 and the
Society, which is very active, organises a wide range of gardening-related
and social events including:-
-
A varied and interesting
programme of illustrated talks
by acknowledged experts on a wide
range of garden and gardening-related subjects. These take place
each month during the winter and meetings conclude with refreshments
(mulled wine and mince pies at Christmas!) and a chance to socialise with
other members. There is a small charge (50p) at the door for non-members.
-
A
Plant Sale
each spring (usually in May) where members and others may
purchase good quality, professionally-grown shrubs, perennial and annual
plants at very affordable prices.
-
A programme of spring and
summer
Visits
to Show Gardens - sometimes
to gardens owned and created by members locally and sometimes to
well-known gardens which are open to the public and may involve venturing
a little further afield.
-
An
Annual
Flower and Vegetable Show
(usually in August each year in the Chardstock Community Hall) features a
flower and vegetable growing competition with classes to suit everyone
from the dedicated gardener to the most inexperienced novice. It
also has categories covering baking and jam-making, photography and
handicrafts and children's and family classes such as handwriting,
model-making and the eagerly contested
"Longest Stinging
Nettle" competition.
The Show is
open to people who live in Chardstock Parish and to paid-up active members
of the Society from outside the Parish (note: active means having attended
at least six meetings in the year).
The Society is managed by a
small voluntary committee, drawn from the membership, who are always
delighted to hear from potential new members, to hear of new ideas for
activities and to receive offers of help in running the year's events.

next meeting for more information, including how to join? You will
